Social Listening

Follow relevant conversations and understand what is behind the trend.

·

OASIS helps your team follow conversations about the subjects you need to keep an eye on. Set up a listening topic using relevant keywords or hashtags, then choose from the available sources. You can review the mentions that come in and decide which ones need a closer look.

A topic might cover your organization’s name, a campus event, or a service people are having trouble using. Think about the words someone would actually write. They may use an abbreviation or the name of a building rather than the official name of a program.

The results need context. A rise in mentions could mean an announcement is getting attention, but it could also mean people are confused about it. Reading the posts helps your team understand what’s behind the numbers before deciding how to respond.

For example, several people might ask whether registration is still open after you’ve posted a deadline reminder. That could be a reason to check the wording or make the registration link easier to find. Listening gives you material to review alongside your own published content.

You can give a topic an owner and set its alert behavior. The person responsible can review the mentions and follow changes over time. If an item needs investigation or a response, it can become a case so the follow-up has someone looking after it.

Reports help you explain what your team found. Keep relevant examples with the trend you’re describing, especially when other people will use the report to make a decision. A few posts about the same problem may deserve attention even when the total number of mentions is small.

Coverage depends on the sources available to your workspace and the access those services allow. Review those limits when choosing what to monitor.
